Haslam Park BOOT CAMP #1 March 11 Review

Boot camp is approaching its final sessions for March 2011. The clocks went back and we are no longer working out in twilight. The sun was out for session #5, a gruelling kettlebell and agility workout that packed a punch into the thighs and the core muscles.
We did a quick weigh in, with people revealing some positive results on the scales. Others reported a conflict of interests with busy social lives causing dietary lapses over the weekend!!

A concerted effort to curb and control the intake of white starchy foods is required to make serious inroads into the fat stores. This doesn't have to mean giving up eating. In fact, the best method is to substitute your portion of rice, pasta, bread, potatoes (ALL OF WHICH CONTAIN HUGE QUANTITIES OF HIGH SUGAR CALORIES THAT YOUR BODY JUST LOVES TO SLOT INTO THE FAT STORES) with green and wholefood alternatives.
Starchy foods are either processed or created to contain as much energy as possible in a small spoonful. Wholefoods are largely unprocessed and unchanged from when they were picked off the ground, the plant or the tree.
Substitute wholefoods for white starchy carbs as often as possible. For example, eat a few more eggs, prepare fruit smoothies, eat whole fruit, prepare soups with mixed vegetables and stock (HOME MADE IS FAR TASTIER THAN TINNED) and keep a well stock bowl in the fridge full of home made fruit salad. This takes a bit of planning and a bit of preparation, but it soon becomes a habit.
Also, in between sessions, any extra cardio you can do will help to keep the metabolism moving. Anything from walking, jogging, gym or other classes will do, just keep moving.
Right, lecture over.
